| | ThyatiraThyatira was a city in Asia Minor (modern Turkey) on the Lycus River. While in Philippi, Paul and his companions were invited to stay at the house of Lydia (after she and her household were baptized). Lydia was a dealer of purple cloth from the city of Thyatira (Acts 16:12-15).
The church of Thyatira is the 4th of the 7 letters written in Revelation, chapters 2 and 3. It praises the virtue of the small Christian community, but admonishes them for tolerating a prophetess named Jezebel, who taught and misled the Christians, the same way that the Jezebel of the Old Testament misled the people of Israel.
The letter tells the people who were not influenced by Jezebel and the deep secrets of Satan, to hold fast to what they have until Christ returns.
The other six churches that are mentioned in this part of the book of Revelation are Ephesus, Laodicea, Pergamos, Philadelphia, Sardis, and Smyrna.
